Basic Information:

Silvia is a 24 year-old Italian girl from Florence. She graduated high school in 2004 where she was specialising in English and accountancy. She attended for some months the Faculty of Biology, but she quit as she didn't like it. She is currently unemployed.

She wants to be an au pair because she wants to improve her English. She knows that speaking English is mandatory in almost any job and she thinks that, by being an au pair, she will have the chance to improve it soon. She was always surrounded by children (especially girls) as she has 3 sisters.

Silvia likes listening to music, cooking, reading and going out with her friends.

She is smoking occasionally (when she goes out with her friends) but commits not to smoke in front of the children and around the home.

Childcare Experience:

Silvia has 2 younger sisters. The youngest one of them was born when Silvia was 15 years old. Because her Mum was working many hours, she had to look after the baby (together with her sister). She is used to look after babies and after older children as she looked after her sister daily. She also looked after a girl who was living with a mental health problem for between 2 and up to 4 hours each week. She used to take her out to the park, to the cinema and tried to engage her in conversation as much as possible with her because she had some difficulties speaking. Silvia has no preferences regarding children's ages.

English Skills:

Her English was good and we had an interesting conversation. I had to repeat some questions in order for her to understand them, but over all, her English is good.

Her Mother tongue is Italian.

Housework:

Silvia is prepared to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), shopping (Food, Groceries), care for babies, children or older children, washing, ironing, driving and cooking for children.

Character:

Silvia considers that she is friendly, honest, calm and responsible. She thinks that sometimes she pays too much attention to detail and she can be a little bit obsessed with cleaning. Last year Silvia had an accident and has occasional problems with one of her legs - but only if she does intense exercises, otherwise she can walk or run without any problems.

Eating Habits:

Silvia likes eating vegetables, cheese and fruits. She eats meat very rarely and doesn't like fats.

Driving:

Silvia passed her driving test in February 2004. She drives daily as she used to work 25 km away from her village; she drives a Fiat Panda.

Family:

She lives with her Mother, her Father and her Sisters. Her Mum is 51 years old and is a nurse. Her Father is 53 and is works for a printing company. She has one sister who is older than her and two who are younger than her.
