Rodica is a 30 year-old Romanian woman from Oradea, a city in the western part of Romania. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration. She is unemployed.

She wants to be an au pair because she was a babysitter before in Ireland. She likes children and has a lot of experience with them. She wants to work with children again and that’s why she wants to be an au pair again.

Rodica likes socialising with friends, listening to music, dancing, cooking and walking. She would like to be an au pair for at least one year; she wants to be placed in a city or a town.

She is a non smoker.

Childcare Experience:

She worked as a volunteer for a nongovernmental association, “Il Chicco”. There she worked with children with mental disabilities. She worked there for 3 years (between 1999- 2001). She lived with 8 girls and all of them had mental problems. She lived alone with them and had different programmes with them (the girls were visited by a psychologist daily). She worked there full time – she was on duty at any hour the girls needed it. She said that the experience was hard, but she really enjoyed it because she could see how the girls bonded with her and she felt good that she could help them. She also worked in her village as a volunteer at her church: she looked after the kids during the Sunday classes, taught them different things from the Bible, etc. She also worked for 3 years as a babysitter for 2 girls aged 7 and 9 years old. She woke up with the girls, prepare them for school, clean the house and pick the girls up from school. She stopped working there because the family moved to a different country.

English Skills:

Rodica’s English is good – she needed help understanding one or two questions, but she didn’t have problems in expressing her ideas.

Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks Italian (advanced) and French (basic).

Housework:

Rodica is prepared to care for babies, children and disabled children, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, cooking for children and caring for pets.

Rodica describes herself as organiser, active, helpful, co- operative, independent, responsible, hard working and polite.

Eating:

Rodica likes eating most things, except spicy food. She is allergic to pepper.

Driving:

Rodica has passed her driving test in 1998 and usually drives twice a month.

She lives with her husband (26 years old). They both worked together in Dublin and would like to try to work nearby (the same city). She comes from a big family: she has 5 brothers and 2 sisters. Her father is 57 years old and is retired; her mother is 54 years old and is a housewife.
