Ramona is a 25 year-old Romanian girl from Oradea, a city in the western part of Romania. She graduated from the Faculty of Sociology in 2006. She worked for one English company for 1 year and enjoyed the experience and the people she was working with. She is currently unemployed.
She wants to be an au pair because she likes would like to get to know England. She has experience working with English people and thinks that it would be easy for her to adapt living in the UK. She also likes children a lot; has been a volunteer in Romania and in Portugal. She is available as soon as possible and would like to be placed in a town or a village.
Ramona likes dancing (she studied different types of dances), going to the cinema and to the theatre, reading (psychological novels and poems). She also enjoys going to the mountains and making arras.
She is a non smoker.
When she was in high school, during summer holidays, for 3 years, she looked after her neighbour’s daughter. The girl was 8 years old when Ramona started to look after her. She usually spent 3 or 4 hours with the girl until her grandparents came home. She helped the girl with her homework and played with her. In the same period of time, she was a volunteer for a dancing club – because she studied different classic dances she helped the teacher to show children the movements and what they have to do. In 2004 she went with a scholarship in Portugal. There she was a volunteer and worked in an after- hour centre. Together with a student from Hungary and another one from Italy, they picked up the children from school and took them to the centre. She had to look after 20 children aged between 8 and 12 years old. They had to make sure that the kids were doing their homework (and to help them if they needed help) and played different games with them. Because she shares the room with her niece, she said she has a lot of recent experience with children. Her niece is 2 years old and ever since she was a baby, she shared the room with her. Because her sister in law was a student when she gave birth, Ramona spent a lot of time looking after her niece. She knows how to change nappies, to feed a baby, etc; she likes taking the girl in the park to play with her, to their grandparents – she enjoys spending a lot of time with her.
Ramona’s English is good, she has studied it for 4 years.
Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks Italian and Hungarian (beginner).
Ramona is prepared to care for babies, children, older children and children with disabilities; to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, shopping (food/groceries), cooking for children and for the family, gardening, handiwork, driving and caring for pets.
Ramona describes herself as open to new, spontaneous, organized, curious, responsible, flexible and hard working. She thinks that sometimes she is shy – when she doesn’t know the person she is talking to.
Ramona likes eating Chinese and seafood. She doesn’t like pork.
Ramona passed her driving test in 2006. She drives daily and has her own car, a Suzuki Ignis. She drove 175 kilometres for the interview. She drove a British car in Romania for more than a year (she was working for a British company) and she visited different cities with it.
Her Mother is 52 years old and is retired because she had some heart problems. Her Father is 52 years old and works as a truck driver. She has a brother who is 29 years old and is married and has a daughter. They all live in a 3 room apartment in Oradea.
