Paula is a 19 year-old Romanian girl from Abrud, a town in the central part of Romania. She moved to Oradea when she started university. She is a student at the University of Juridical Science (first year). She is unemployed.

She wants to be an au pair because she likes children. Even though she doesn’t have siblings, she always liked being around children. She also thinks that being an au pair will help her in the future - she will improve her English and will have better chances to find a job.

Paula likes reading, listening to music, dancing, watching TV and looking after pets. She also enjoys different sports like aerobics, cycling, gymnastics, running and swimming.

She is a non smoker.

Childcare Experience:

During the holidays when she was in high school she looked after a boy, Gabriel when he was between 3 and 5 years old. The family lived in a different city, Alba Iulia. She looked after him for about 7 or 8 hours a day. This position was almost like an au pair because she lived with this family. She fed him, played with him, bath him, put him to sleep, etc. She also looked after another boy when she was at home, in Stei. Paula looked after him for 2 years (while the boy was 1 to 3 years old). Because his parents were working in Spain and the boy was looked after by his grandparents. Because they were too old, they needed someone younger to look after the boy. She fed him, changed his nappies, bath him, etc. She also helps her neighbours when they need to go somewhere and need someone to look after their children.

Paula’s English is good and we had an interesting conversation.

Housework:

Paula is prepared to care for babies, children, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, shopping (food/groceries) and caring for pets.

Eating:

Paula likes eating most things, but she prefers not to eat too many vegetables.

She lives in Oradea with her boyfriend. Her Mum lives in a different town, Stei. She is 41 years old and works as an administrator. Her Father lives in Targu Mures, but they don’t speak too often.
