Basic Information:

Mariana is a 31 year-old Romanian girl from Oradea, a city in the western part of Romania. She graduated high school in 1996. She graduated from the post secondary in 2004 – being specialised as a nurse. She also graduated different courses (massage and physiotherapist).

She wants to be an au pair because she likes having children around her – they make her happier. She also likes the idea of helping families looking after children.

Mariana likes going to the cinema, reading (newspapers and magazines) and watching TV. She doesn’t like to go out too much, she prefers to stay at home.

She is a non smoker.

Childcare Experience:

She worked in Italy as a nurse after she graduated. She worked in Italy for 3 months with a 25 year old man. Her contract was for only 3 months and that’s why she didn’t stay longer. The man she was looking after was tetraplegyc. She was living alone with him and had to do everything from him – starting from washing him, cooking for him, cleaning the house, etc. She came back to Romania and worked as a nurse for 1 year and 3 months (2005 until 2006). By the end of 2006, she went back to Italy with a 2 months contract. She looked after elderly and had to clean after them, to wash them, to help them to go bed, etc. In 2007 and 2008 she went to Mexico where she worked for a private Clinique where she worked as a masseur (therapeutic massage). When she was a student, she had to make her practice at the maternity. She looked after babies and helped the nurses there.

English Skills:

Mariana’s English is fair/ good.

Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks Spanish and Italian (advanced).

Housework:

Mariana is prepared to care for babies , children and disabled children, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, shopping (food/groceries), cooking for children and for the family and caring for pets.

Character:

Mariana describes herself as honest, responsible, co-operative, hard working. She thinks that sometimes she is shy and nervous before knowing her interlocutor.

Eating:

Mariana’s favourite food is fish; she doesn’t like fats at all.

Driving:

Mariana will have her driving test in January.

She lives with her Mother, Father and her brother (20 years old).
