Ioana is a 20 year-old Romanian girl from Oradea, a city in the western part of Romania. She is currently a student at the University of Sociology (second year).
She wants to be an au pair because she was a babysitter in France before and she wants to try to see how life is in the UK. She would also like to improve her English.
Ioana likes swimming, reading, singing and playing different musical instruments (guitar, violin, flute and mandolin), cooking, listening to music and driving. She would be glad to teach children to play any of those instruments.
She is a non smoker.
Four year ago she started to be a volunteer for different camps organised by her church (Camp of Joy). She does this for 6 weeks each year, usually during the summer. She has to look after a group of 12 children and supervises many activities organised for the children. She worked as a babysitter in France (beginning in September this year). The family had 7 children and the youngest one of them had a number of different problems (she had 7 operations) and she had to pay a lot of attention to her. The parents were away 5 days per week because they were working in a different country and they were home only during the weekend. She had to keep the entire house clean (cleaning, washing, ironing) and to look after the children. It was a difficult experience for her, but she said she really enjoyed it. She came back in December because she had exams and she had to prepare for them. She also worked in Italy last year during the summer as a babysitter for a family who had 3 children – the youngest one was 11 months old and the oldest one 4 years. She has been performing various practices of work experience from her university and she works for the local community with children with problems and with orphaned children. She likes working with children and hopes she will be a good social worker.
Ioana’s English is good.
Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks French and Italian (beginner).
Ioana is prepared to care for babies ,children and disabled children, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, shopping (food/groceries), driving and caring for pets.
Ioana describes herself as sociable, responsible, friendly, trustful, hard working, reliable and honest.
Ioana prefers not to eat meat. She would if the family she lives with does, but if given the choice she would choose not to.
Ioana has passed her driving test. She enjoys driving, she drives daily (her family has 3 cars so she drives different types of cars). She also drove from France to Romania and even though it was hard she enjoyed it.
She comes from a big family: she has 4 older and 6 younger siblings. Her Mum is 51 and her Father is 52 years old and they are both retired. They have a close relationship and their opinion is very important for Ioana.
