Gabriela is a 26 year-old Romanian girl from Cluj Napoca a city in the western part of Romania. She graduated in 2007 the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work and in 2008 from the Faculty of Psychology. She is unemployed.

She wants to be an au pair because she sees this as an opportunity to improve her life. She likes children and has experience with them. She wants to have a career in looking after children so she thinks this will be the first step in achieving this.

Gabriela likes swimming, reading good books, watching movies and socialising with friends. Recently she discovered that she likes creating web pages and likes spending time to improve them.

She is a non smoker.

Childcare Experience:

Because she studied at the pedagogical high school, she had hours of practice in kindergartens and primary schools. She organised different funny activities for children at kindergarten and she had to teach different subjects for children who were in primary school. During the same period of time she worked as a volunteer with a 14 year-old girl. The girl came from a broken family and she needed some help with her homework and someone to play with. Gabriela did this for 2 years and visited the girl twice a week. She also took care of her cousin’s daughter. The girl was 2 years old and Gabriela took care of her when her cousin was away for some hours. She also had practice during the university – she had to visit different centres or schools for children with disabilities (physical or mental disabilities). They were there for observation, but they also had to teach them different subjects. She was also a volunteer in an organisation (FRCCF) where she helped children who came from broken families. They organised group games but they also took care of every child individually.

English Skills:

Gabriela’s English is good and we had an interesting conversation.

Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks Hungarian and French (medium) Italian and Spanish (beginner).

Housework:

Gabriela is prepared to care for children, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), washing, ironing, cooking for children, driving and caring for pets.

Gabriela describes herself as calm, open minded, funny and easy adaptable.

Eating:

Gabriela eats almost everything. Her favorite food is seafood.

Driving:

Gabriela has passed her driving test in 2008 but since then she didn’t drive too often. She says she would like to drive in the UK because she really enjoys driving and she didn’t drive more often only because she didn’t have a car.

Family:

Her Mum lives in Italy and her Father passed away in 2004. She lives with her brothers and her boyfriend.
