Elena is a 22 year-old Romanian girl from Oradea, a city in the western part of Romania. She graduated high school in 2006. Because she needed money for her family, after graduating high school, she went to work in Germany. She is currently unemployed.

She wants to be an au pair because she likes children and she likes spending time with them. She likes the fact that as an au pair one can work and earn some pocket money, but also study and visit a different country. She wants to get as many qualifications as possible because she wants to improve for her future career.

Elena says that she is a fitness fanatic – she likes doing different activities daily. She played basketball, gymnastics and sports dance. She would like to be placed somewhere where she will have access to a gym or to some other activities that she can do with children. She also likes reading bedtime stories, photography, watching cartoons and going out with friends.

She is a non smoker.

Childcare Experience:

She has a sister in Germany who has a boy and a daughter. Elena used to visit them during the summer holidays. She also looked after them when she went to Germany (in 2006), when her sister was busy or working. Later, she worked as an ice-seller. She lived with the family who owned the business and they had a child. She liked spending her free time with the boy, even though this wasn’t part of her duties. She played with him, took him out in the park, watched cartoons with him, etc. She had one day off while she was working as an ice-seller and during that day she worked as a volunteer at a gymnastics centre. She helped the trainers and showed the girls how to train and how to make the exercises correctly. She was also a volunteer in many sports clubs in Romania. Because she played basketball, gymnastics and sports dance she joined different clubs to work with children and to teach them different sports.

English Skills:

Elena’s English is very good and she didn’t have any problems in expressing her ideas.

Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks German (advance), French, Italian and Spanish (beginner).

Housework:

Elena is prepared to care for children, older children and children with disabilities; to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, shopping (food/groceries), cooking for children, gardening and handiwork.

Elena describes herself as funny, friendly, open minded, flexible, spontaneous, sociable, hard working and co-operative.

Eating:

Elena likes eating sweets, soups, vegetables and fruits. She prefers eating meat as rarely as possible.

Elena has not passed her driving test.

She lives with her Mum in Oradea. Her Mum is 55 years old and is retired. She has 4 brothers and 1 sister.
