Anda is a 22 year-old Romanian girl from Resita, a town in the south- western part of Romania. She graduated from the Faculty of Sociology, specialising in teaching children with disabilities. She is unemployed.
She wants to be an au pair because she likes children. She worked with children and she thinks that this career suits her. She also wants to improve her English and, in time, to get the chance to work as a social worker with children with disabilities. She has no preferences regarding the location.
Anda likes different sports (aerobics, jogging, dancing, ice skating and cycling). She also likes reading, listening to music, walking and going to the cinema.
She is a social smoker. She sometimes smokes when she goes out with her friends, but never in the house or around it.
During her studies she had work practice at a school for deaf children. It was difficult initially because she didn’t know sign language and communication. They had different activities (games and outdoor activities) but she also had to teach them different subjects (Mathematics, Romanian and History). She enjoyed this experience because she thinks they appreciated any help they get more than other children. She also looked after a friend’s two children in 2005 during weekends. Her friend had a boy (1 year old) and a girl (6 years old. Because her friend was working during the weekends too she looked after the children for 3 or 4 hours per day. She had different activities with them: with the girl reading and writing and with the boy she used to play. She prefers looking after younger children because she thinks that they are more curious and willing to learn new things.
Anda’s English was generally good though I helped her translate some questions into Romanian.
Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks Spanish (medium level).
Anda is prepared to care for babies, children and children with disabilities, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), ironing, shopping (food/groceries), cooking for children, driving and caring for pets.
Anda describes herself as serious, funny, neat and tidy, talkative, sociable, caring, disciplined and hard working.
Anda doesn’t have a favorite food. She doesn’t like lamb at all though.
Anda passed her driving test in 2006. She drives daily – she has her own car (Opel Corsa).
She lives only with her Mother. Her Mother is 42 years old and works as a nurse for the police. Her Father is separated from her Mother and they do not keep in touch.
