Alice is a 23 year-old Romanian girl from Galati, a city in the eastern part of Romania. She finished the Faculty of Journalism in 2009, but she still has to take her final exam (probably next year). She has been working as a computer operator for the same company for over 4 years.

She wants to be an au pair because she wants to change her job and to try something new while she is still young. She likes the idea of meeting new people, making new friends and knowing how British people live.

Alice likes practising sports like karate, aerobics, jogging and cycling. She also enjoys surfing the web, walking, reading and socialising with friends.

She is a non smoker.

Childcare Experience:

She helped her Mum looking after a girl called Andreea. The girl lived with them for 3 years because her Mother was working in Italy. She was 5 years when she moved in with Alice. Because Alice’s Mother was working many hours, she had to spend all day long with the girl. She prepared her for kindergarten, took her there and then she went to work (she worked only part time). In parallel, she attended as many classes at the University as she could. At 1 or 2 pm she picked up the girl from kindergarten, played with her, cooked or different other activities until her Mum was back from work in the evening. She also occasionally babysits for some of her Mum’s friend (when they are working or they have to go out).

English Skills:

Alice’s English is good; she studied it for 7 years. She still wants to improve it by attending English classes.

Her native language is Romanian. She also speaks Spanish (medium).

Housework:

Alice is prepared to care for babies, children, to undertake light housework (tidying/ vacuuming/ dusting), washing, ironing, shopping (food/grocery), cooking for children and caring for pets.

Character:

Alice describes herself as easy adaptable, open minded, responsible, sincere, flexible, polite and caring. She thinks sometimes she is too quiet, but she hopes the family will understand that this is just the way she is.

Eating:

Alice eats almost anything, but she prefers meals that include meat. She doesn’t like peanuts and too spicy food.

Driving:

Alice has not passed her driving test.

Family:

She lives with her Mum in an apartment in Galati. Her parents divorced 20 years ago; she has not been in touch with her Father. Her grandparents live in a nearby village.
